Le professeur Shahida Hasnain du Pakistan reçoit le Prix Carlos J. Finlay de microbiologie de l’UNESCO

Le professeur Shahida Hasnain du Pakistan, a remporté le prix UNESCO Carlos J. Finlay 2017 pour ses contributions dans le domaine de la microbiologie.
La Ministre cubaine Mme. Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella et M. Getachew Engida, Directeur général adjoint de l’UNESCO, ont remis le prix au Professeur Shahida Hasnain lors d’une cérémonie de remise de prix organisée en marge de la Conférence générale de l’UNESCO, au Siège de l’UNESCO, à Paris, hier.
L’Ambassadeur du Pakistan en France et Délégué permanent du Pakistan auprès de l’UNESCO, S.E. M. Moin ul Haque, a également assisté à la cérémonie de remise des prix.
Le prix a été décerné à au professeur Shahida Hasnain pour ses recherches sur les mécanismes de désintoxication des métaux lourds, les mécanismes de tolérance au stress du sel, la morphogenèse bactérienne et la microbiologie environnementale, agricole et médicale.
Le professeur Shahida Hasnain est la fondatrice et présidente du Département de microbiologie et de génétique moléculaire de l’Université du Pendjab à Lahore, qui est reconnu comme un centre d’excellence tant pour son équipement que pour son expertise.
Le Prix UNESCO Carlos J. Finlay de microbiologie a été institué par le Gouvernement cubain pour récompenser les scientifiques dont les travaux de recherche ont apporté une contribution exceptionnelle à la microbiologie et à son application. Dr Samir Shah du Bangladesh était l’autre récipiendaire du prix.

Professor Shahida Hasnain of Pakistan wins UNESCO’s Carlos J Prize for Microbiology
Paris 7th November, 2017. Professor Shahida Hasnain of Pakistan has won the 2017 edition of the UNESCO Carlos J. Finlay Prize in recognition of her contributions in the field of Microbiology.
Cuban Minister Ms. Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella and Mr. Getachew Engida, Deputy Director General UNESCO gave away the prize to Professor Shahida Hasnain at a award giving ceremony held on the sidelines of UNESCO General Conference, at the UNESCO Headquarter, in Paris yesterday.
The award Ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of Pakistan to France and Pakistan’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Moin ul Haque.
Professor Shahida Hasnain was awarded the price in recognition of her research on heavy metal detoxification mechanisms, salt stress tolerance mechanisms, bacterial morphogenesis and environmental, agricultural and medical microbiology.
Professor Shahida Hasnain is the Founder and Chairperson of the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Punjab in Lahore which is recognized as a centre of excellence both for its equipment and expertise.
UNESCO Carlos J. Finlay Prize for Microbiology was instituted by the Government of Cuba to reward scientists whose research has made an outstanding contribution to microbiology and its application. The other recipient of the award was Dr. Samir Shah from Bangladesh.
